Best Money Transfer Service in 2026: Who Is Actually Cheapest?

There is no single best money transfer service. Across the 50 corridors where we recorded at least two providers between 26 and 29 September 2026, for a transfer of 100 units of the sending currency, five different providers came out alone in first place: Western Union on 18 corridors, InstaReM on 12, Remitly on 9, WorldRemit on 6 and Wise on 2. On 3 more, Western Union and WorldRemit were exactly tied. The right choice depends first on where the money leaves from and where it lands.

The count, corridor by corridor

Total cost adds the fees and the margin taken on the exchange rate, measured against that day's interbank rate. First-transfer prices that Remitly itself flags as promotional are left out: they only apply once. Corridors where we record a single provider are left out too: with no competitor, there is nothing to rank. The full method is on how our comparison works.

What these numbers say

• Western Union, often described as expensive, is the cheapest on the largest number of corridors, especially from France to French-speaking Africa, where its total cost fell to 0.99% to Senegal and Ivory Coast.
• InstaReM has the lowest median cost (0.75%), but we only record it on 23 corridors: where it operates, it is often hard to beat.
• Wise was alone cheapest on only 2 corridors for a 100-unit transfer. Part of its fee is fixed, which weighs more on small amounts: on each corridor page, the amount selector (100, 200, 500, 1,000) shows whether the ranking changes for your sum.
• The gaps are large: on a single corridor we recorded up to 14 points between the cheapest and the most expensive provider (Canada to Haiti, 3.92% against 18.27%).

Wise is the only provider that pays this site. It has no say in any ranking: providers are sorted by the amount received, and the count above is the result.

As shown on our destination pages on 3 November 2026; each quote carries its own collection date on the page. A negative cost means the provider's rate was slightly better than the interbank reference measured that day: it happens, it does not last, and it is why the amount received is the only figure worth comparing. Are there free money transfers?

Several providers show 0 in fees on some corridors. The cost does not disappear: it moves into the exchange rate. Always compare the amount your recipient gets, not the fee line. And a free first transfer is still a first transfer: the second one is charged at the regular price.

Which service is fastest?

We show the delivery time each provider states in its quote, and we do not estimate it for them. Wise states under an hour on part of its corridors, but six to eight days to Haiti; Western Union generally states about 24 hours. Remitly, WorldRemit and InstaReM do not state a delivery time in the quotes we record.

How to choose, in practice

1. Start from the corridor, not the provider: the ranking changes from one country to the next.
2. Compare the amount received, fees and exchange rate included.
3. Check your own amount: fixed fees weigh most on small transfers.
4. Check how your recipient will be paid (bank account, mobile money, cash pickup) before comparing prices.
