What we recorded on 29 September 2026
Sending $100 from the United States, fees and exchange-rate margin included:
| Provider | Fee | Recipient gets | Total cost | Stated delivery |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WorldRemit | Free | GHS 1,164 | -0.55% | not stated |
| InstaReM | Free | GHS 1,155 | 0.23% | not stated |
| Remitly* | Free | GHS 1,126 | 2.77% | not stated |
| Wise | $4.17 | GHS 1,115 | 3.65% | about 1 h |
| Western Union | $5.99 | GHS 1,079 | 6.80% | about 24 h |
* Remitly's price includes a discount that its own calculator flags as promotional: it may not apply to later transfers.
A negative total cost means the provider's exchange rate was slightly better than the interbank reference rate we measured that day — the recipient gets marginally more than a mid-market conversion.
From the UK and Germany
The same day, sending £100 from the United Kingdom, WorldRemit and Western Union both paid out GHS 1,542, ahead of InstaReM (GHS 1,532) and Wise (GHS 1,499). From Germany, on €100, WorldRemit and Western Union both paid out GHS 1,327. The World Bank averages are 4.24% from the UK and 4.45% from Germany.
What this means in practice
- From the US, WorldRemit and InstaReM left the most cedis on a $100 transfer; Western Union the fewest, but with a stated delivery of about 24 hours.
- Wise stated the fastest delivery (about an hour), at a mid-table price.
- With no fee, the cost is in the exchange rate: compare the cedis received, not the fee line.
Wise is the only provider that pays this site a commission. It has no influence on the order of any table: providers are ranked by the amount the recipient gets.
How money is received in Ghana
Mobile money is the most common way to receive a transfer in Ghana, led by MTN Mobile Money. Bank deposits and cash pickup are also available, depending on the provider. Check that the recipient's method is offered before comparing prices.
Compare by route
Before you send
- Compare the cedis received, not the fee.
- Check the payout method: mobile money, bank account or cash.
- Treat a first-transfer price as a one-off.
- Re-check on the day you send: the cedi moves and quotes change daily.
